We are big fans of Spin Art at Studio Sprout. This is a total studio favorite! Recently we revisited Spin Art  with a twist. Call it a Hanger, a Mobile…maybe  Garland, or Bunting, We like to call it a plate chain. It’s just plain fun to make AND visually stunning.
Materials:

  • Dried Spin Art Plates
  • Hole Punch
  • Pipe Cleaners (cut in half)
  • Pony Beads
  • Straws (cut up)

This is a really easy project for children of all ages. Each plate should have two punched holes, one across from the other. The pipe cleaners go through the punched holes, and are secured by wrapping the shorter inserted piece around the longer.

Beads and cut down straws are added to each length of pipe cleaner. Leave about 1 to attach pipe cleaner to the next plate. This is repeated until one has run out of plates and/or achieved desired length. We call this a plate train, or a plate chain.

This is an EXCELLENT fine motor project and you’d be surprised how small toddlers take this as quickly as school age children.
